WEEK (15) FIFTEEN ANALYSIS: 4 of 5. Ritter trailed 28-0 and got started too late to beat Bishop Luers. The state's top offense put up 28 second half points but it wasn't enough. Luers and Lafayette Catholic won four consecutive state titles, which to me, says more about the format than it does them. Again, four private schools win four of the five titles and in Class 5A, there are no private schools. It's a disgrace that Lafayette Catholic is in the same playoff bracket with 1A public schools. Chatard has won three 3A titles in a row as has Cathedral in 4A.
Why? Because public schools and private schools of the same size are not equals and the private schools win (not all, but) most of the time. The IHSAA will, through a rule that is somewhat hard-handed, move all four of those champions up one class and I'll make a prediction right now which will come true. Lafayete Catholic, Bishop Luers and Bishop Chatard will not win the state title in the higher class.
Why?
Because it's not a mismatch anymore. All private schools should play up one from their enrollment class in all sports. That would be fair and we'll get proof of that in 2013.
