CHANNAHON, IL (03-07-2015) Another year, another great day of hoops action at the Families of Faith Christian Academy in Channahon, Illinois. Once again, The South Shore Christian Conference Basketball Tournament, this time the 2015 installment.

The day commenced with the girls consolation game, which featured the Kankakee Trinity Lady Eagles, coached by Mike Lawrence, claiming third place with a 52-39 win over the host school, Families of Faith Christian Screaming Eagles.

Kankakee Trinity led after every quarter in a tight contest. Freshman Ashley Harwood led her team with 18 points in the win, followed by senior Emma Wessels’ 10 points.

But the star attraction was clearly Screaming Eagles junior Destiny Villalejo, who lit-up the board for 32 points and kept her team in the game until the end.

The second game marked the boys contest for the consolation prize. The Calumet Christian Patriots accomplished the feat with an 80-49 win over the Granger Christian Knights. The tone of this game was set in the opening quarter as the Patriots went on top 34-7 by the end of the opening quarter. It also became the "CJ Scott Show." With 36 points, the Patriots senior attacked the basket from start to finish for Head Coach John Vinson’s program. Bobby Dunbar led the way for the Knights with 16 points in the loss.

The nightcap became one to crown champions. First the girls’ side featured the Calumet Christian Lady Patriots, coached by Mike Diehl, pulling-off a 48-44 victory for the title over the Victory Christian Lady Lions. Lady Patriots senior Cassie Obinger had 14 points, while junior Dahnia Hall chipped-in 11. Leading the Lady Lions’ was sophomore Maria Reisinger, who had 13 points. The Lady Lions led 21-18 at the half, and stayed competitive with the Lady Patriots all the way to end.

The boys’ championship would cap off the night in Channahon as the host Families of Faith Christian Screaming Eagles, who lost in last year’s title contest on their home court, made sure that this year would have a different outcome. The Screaming Eagles did just that, with a 69-62 win over the Grace Christian Crusaders. Sophomore Amari Morgan had 29 points, including a crucial three pointer late in the game when the Crusaders were making a run. Senior Cody Blan, son of head coach Mike Blan, added 17 points for the Screaming Eagles, while junior Cameron Latour scored 13.

The Crusaders were led in scoring by sophomore Bryson Grasse’s 22 points, while junior Levi Tilley had 14 and sophomore A.J. Barnes contributed with 11.
