CROWN POINT (01-13-2018) For the Crown Point Lady Bulldogs' lone seniors, Mya Scheidt and Taylor Tyndall, leadership on the team has carried strong meaning. It showed on Saturday, January 13 as together they received honor and recognition in pregame ceremonies as part of Senior Night.

The Lady Bulldogs then followed with the business of defeating their conference rivals to the north, knocking-off the Merrillville Lady Pirates 69-36.

The Lady Bulldogs had strong production of junior guard Ellie VanDeel who led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points, followed by Scheidt’s 12 points and junior forward Paige Sanborn’s 11 points.

However, leading all scorers with 14 points, senior forward Brittany Williams contributed in a losing cause for the Lady Pirates.

Yet this night marked reflection and celebration for the seniors.

“This is my third year and those kids were sophomores when I got here,” Lady Bulldogs head coach Chris Seibert said about Scheidt and Tyndall. “They have given so much to our program on the court but also off the court, in the classroom and the community. We could not ask for two better athletes to represent our program.”

For Tyndall, she has seen her time at Crown Point move quick.

“I can’t believe I’m a senior. My basketball career is going by fast. This was a special moment,” Tyndall said.

With three games left, the Lady Bulldogs look ahead to more good basketball ahead with the sectional tournament closing in.

“My confidence is high,” Scheidt said, who will play college basketball at the University of Indianapolis. “Players who don’t start or play as much have stepped it up. I have plenty of confidence.”

The win improves the Lady Bulldogs' season mark to 12-8 overall, 2-4 in the Duneland Athletic Conference; while the Lady Pirates fall to 3-16, 0-6 in the DAC. Crown Point has now won six of their last seven, including their current three-game winning streak.

LADY DOG NOTES: This win marks the second time the Lady Bulldogs have won three straight this season. They defeated Western, Indianapolis Cathedral and Mount Vernon (Fortville) in tournament action on December 27 and 28.

The Lady Bulldogs have now defeated Michigan City, Munster and Merrillville for their second three-game winning streak of the season, including back-to-back DAC wins over Michigan City and now Merrillville. Before defeating Michigan City on January 9, Crown Point had not won a game within the DAC.

USA-365.com NOTES: Internet radio station USA-365.com will broadcast a Chesterton at Crown Point girls-boys double-header this Friday, Jan. 19, with the pregame show at 5:15 p.m. The Lady Bulldogs tip-off at 5:30 p.m. and boys game tips-off at 7 p.m. CST.
