CROWN POINT (01-15-2019) Having already clinched a share of the Duneland Athletic Conference (DAC) title, the Crown Point Lady Bulldogs took a break from the conference.

Playing host to the Northwest Crossroads Conference’s (NWC) Kankakee Valley Lady Kougars, the Lady Bulldogs met a team they had lost three-straight to coming-in.

But Crown Point managed to put that behind them with a 61-46 victory at Crown Point High School on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs stay perfect at 21-0, 6-0 in the DAC, while Kankakee Valley falls to 15-3 overall, 3-0 in the NWC.

The victory for Crown Point also came as the teams promoted the “Coaches vs. Cancer” challenge, the annual Lady Bulldogs cancer awareness night in which they wore pink uniforms and held pregame ceremonies in which both teams lined-up on the baselines displaying “I stand up for” cards with a name written below to display a name of someone effected by cancer. The crowd had signs too.

With the Lady Bulldogs holding a 61-46 halftime lead, freshman guard Jessica Carrothers already had 15 points. She would go on the finish with 29 points.

Senior guard Ellie VanDeel chipped-in 18 points for Crown Point.

In a losing cause, senior forward Sarah Martin had 11 points for the Lady Kougars, followed-by senior guard Catherine Cavinder’s 10 points.

Until Tuesday, the previous time Crown Point had defeated Kankakee Valley was Jan. 20, 2015. The Lady Bulldogs had lost the previous three-straight, outscored by the Lady Kougars 54-50.

LADY DOG NOTES:
With the win, the Lady Bulldogs have gone 6-0 against NWC schools this regular season. In addition to Kankakee Valley, they defeated Andrean, Lowell, Hobart, Highland and Munster by an average margin of 73-29.

The victory against Kankakee Valley also marked the 70th overall for Crown Point Head Coach Chris Seibert. He’s currently 70-26 since assuming the head coaching duties in 2015.

USA-365.com/Indiana-Sports.com Broadcast Note: The next scheduled Crown Point Lady Bulldogs’ broadcast on USA-365.com/Indiana-Sports.com will be on Tuesday, Jan. 22 when the Lady Bulldogs host the Bishop Noll Lady Warriors. The pregame show begins at 6:45 p.m. (CST), with tip-off at 7 p.m. (CST).
