Scheidt leads Lady Bulldogs to 47-37 win over Munster

CROWN POINT (01-11-2018) For the Crown Point Lady Bulldogs to defeat the Munster Lady Mustangs, they would need someone to step-up early.

They found that someone in senior guard May Scheidt.

Scheidt scored 10 of her 15 points in the first quarter, as the Lady Bulldogs knocked off a tough Lady Mustangs team, 47-37 on Thursday, January 12 at Crown Point High School.

The Lady Bulldogs led 17-11 at the end of the opening quarter, but the lead got cut to 26-23 at halftime as Munster outscored the Crown Point 12-9 in the second quarter.

Following a 9-8 advantage for the Lady Bulldogs in the third quarter, they took control and advantage of Munster turnovers, outscoring the Lady Mustangs 12-6 in the fourth.

“They (Munster) have been playing well and with a lot of confidence,” Lady Bulldogs Head Coach Chris Seibert said. “Our kids do a great job finding the one player who is making shots, we have had different players this season, but we want to give May her looks.”

Junior guard Ellie VanDeel had 12 points for the Lady Bulldogs.

Crown Point hit four three-point shots in the opening quarter, two by Scheidt.

Leading the charge for Munster, junior guard Izzy Bednarowski had 11 points.

In all, seven players for each team tailed points.

Crown Point improved to 11-8 overall, while Muster dropped to 15-4, first place in the Northwest Crossroads Conference.

Lady Bulldog Notes:
This win marks the sixth straight for Crown Point over Munster. The last time the Lady Mustangs defeated the Lady Bulldogs was Nov. 10, 2012. Crown Point lost at Munster 39-36 in the first game of the 2012-13 season.

Thursday’s game also marked the Coaches vs. Cancer Challenge. Before the game, players from Crown Point and Munster lined-up with cards as part of the “I Stand Up” campaign. They held cards with a name effected by someone who cancer. Also, pink t-shirts were distributed as part of a fundraising effort.
