CROWN POINT (01-06-2018) Over the last few years, Crown Point Lady Bulldogs Head Coach Chris Seibert had tried to schedule an annual meeting with the Lafayette Jefferson Lady Bronchos.

On Saturday, January 6, he and the Lady Bulldogs got their wish on their home floor.

Yet the Lady Bronchos would show their regular season domination in a 49-40 victory.

Leading the charge for the Lady Bronchos, sophomore forward Kiara Lewis had 12 points, while junior guard Mykela Haskins and senior center Destinee Cross had 11 points each.

The Lady Bulldogs were led in scoring by junior guard Ellie VanDeel’s 12 points.

After Lafayette Jefferson outscored Crown Point 11-6 in the opening quarter, the Lady Bulldogs only trailed 23-21 at the half. But in the final 16 minutes, they were outscored 26-14. The Lady Bulldogs never led in the game, but closed to within 40-39 late in the game before a final surge by Jeff resulted in the 49-40 final score.

Both teams had difficulty holding on to the ball as Lafayette Jefferson had 23 turnovers while Crown Point handed the ball over 19 times.

“Our kids played hard, but we've got to hit our free throws. We had some good looks, they just did not go in,” Seibert said, as they Bulldogs only shot 44 percent from the free throw line.

When he was head coach at Portage High School, Seibert attempted to schedule Lafayette Jefferson. He has found respect for what this program has done and their head coach.

“Coach (Andy) Baker has done a great job with his team. He has them moving in the right direction.”

The win improves Lafayette Jefferson to 14-1 on the year, while Crown Point fell to 9-8.

Moving in the right direction has proven true. Under Head Coach Andy Baker, they jumped from a 1-20 record in the 2013-14 season, his first year; to a 19-7 finish in 2016-17.

Lady Dog Notes:
This loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Lady Bulldogs, their best streak of the season. Crown Point had won back-to-back games to start the regular season, with wins over Hanover Central (Nov. 9) and Andrean (Nov. 14), as well as Hobart (Dec. 2) and Morton (Dec. 5).

On Friday, January 5, the Lady Bulldogs game at Michigan City High School was postponed against the Lady Wolves as schools in Michigan City were forced to close due to severe cold and snowy weather. The was rescheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 9, which will be aired live on Internet Radio USA-365.com beginning with the pregame show at 6:46 p.m. and tip-off at 7 p.m. CST.
