CROWN POINT (5-15-2017) It started with a strikeout to the leadoff hitter and it ended with a strikeout to the game’s last hitter. For the Crown Point Bulldogs, senior right-hander Alexis Holloway coasted in retiring all 21 hitters she faced, on her way to a perfect game in a 6-0 victory over the Highland Trojans.

For Holloway, she could sense this would become her day.

“Once I got settled in, I felt like I was throwing good," Holloway said. “It was a good day for me. I felt good out there. I don’t go into a game with the mindset of a perfect game on my mind, as long as you come out on top, that’s important.”

The Bulldogs went on top in the first inning when sophomore Mallory McMahon grounded out to short that brought in fellow sophomore Gracie Frazier from third.

Crown Point added two more runs in the third on RBI hits by Holloway and sophomore Maggie Ballentine.

Ballentine would then lead off the sixth with a single to right, stole second and came around and score as junior Brittany Johnstone reached third on an error. Johnstone then tallied on a wild pitch.

Senior MacKenzie Dunlap would eventually double, scoring sophomore Caitlyn Phillips from second to close out the scoring in the sixth. Dunlap would try to stretch her hit into a triple, but ended the inning as she became the final out, caught in a rundown between second and third.

Holloway then closed the door down on the Trojans in the seventh to complete the perfect game.

The win became the 12th shutout victory for the Bulldogs this season and their fourth in five games. The Lady Bulldogs improved their record to 23-1 on the season (13-0 in the Duneland Athletic Conference), while Highland fell to 14-8 overall (8-4 in the Northwest Crossroads Conference).
