CROWN POINT (5-09-2016) The fact that the Crown Point Bulldogs defeated the Penn Kingsmen 2-1 might not come as a surprise. A close game was certainly expected between these two schools ranked in the top five in Class 4A.

With both squads trading zeros through the first three and a half innings, the Bulldogs broke through against Penn junior starting pitcher Danielle Watson.

The Bulldogs scored a run on four hits in their half of the fourth as junior shortstop MacKenzie Dunlap’s infield single scored junior second basemen Alexis Holloway from third. Holloway led off the inning with a triple to right.

Penn senior right fielder Addison Pixley’s double drove in senior shortstop Hallie Hixenbaugh from third to tie the game in the sixth.

The Bulldogs would respond in their half of the sixth, as junior third basemen Natalie Klingberg’s single to center drove in Dunlap, who led off the inning with a hit.
