CROWN POINT (4-19-2017) Cool temperatures and overcast skies did not dampen the Crown Point Bulldogs in their first conference softball game of 2017 against the Merrillville Pirates.

They set the tone early, scoring seven runs in the opening inning, on their way to a 10-0 win after five innings.

Senior Brooke Manhatton capped-off the opening inning with a two-out triple that brought in three runs, as the Bulldogs sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning. Each Bulldog would reach base at least once, with the top eight hitters in the line-up getting-on multiple times.

Senior starting pitcher Stephanie Renner went the distance in the abbreviated contest. The right-hander shut down nine straight Pirates, after leaving runners at second and third after the top of the first.
