CHESTERTON (5-30-2017) From the first hitter of the IHSAA Class 4A Regional Championship at Chesterton High School, confidence ran high for the Crown Point Bulldogs against the host Trojans.

Senior MacKenzie Dunlap greeted Trojans starting junior pitcher Lauren Anderson with a solo home run to center field. She would add an RBI single in the seventh, an inning that the Bulldogs scored four times, on their way to a 7-0 win, earning the regional title and a right to play in semi-state.

I was looking to get on base, Dunlap said on the first-inning homer. I thought it was a pop-fly, but once it got out, it was an awesome feeling.

In all, Chesterton retired Crown Point in order, only in the second and fifth innings.

Senior Bulldogs starter Alexis Holloway yielded two hits over the first two innings before going on a stretch of retiring seven in a row. She retired the last seven Trojans she faced, striking out four in that span.

Besides Dunlap in the seventh, the Bulldogs got RBI hits from sophomores Maggie Ballentine, and Caitlyn Phillips. Ballentine had a two-run single, while Phillips featured an RBI single.

The Lady Bulldogs improved their record to 27-2 on the season (14-0 in the Duneland Athletic Conference), while the Trojans close out their 2017 season at 25-7 overall and 10-4 in the DAC.

The Bulldogs now will match-up with the Penn Kingsmen in a first round game on Saturday, June 3 in the Harrison High School semi-state in West Lafayette.

The Kingsmen will enter play with a 27-1 overall record and won their regional title with a 13-0 win at Northridge.
