CROWN POINT (01-04-2019) It became the type of game that the Crown Point Bulldogs needed moving forward. After dropping all three contests at the Noblesville Invite on Dec. 27 and 28, the Bulldogs welcomed the Michigan City Wolves for the Duneland Conference opener.

From the tip-off, the Bulldogs took command with a combination of hot-shooting, crisp ball-handling and passing on offense, scoring the first nine points of the game and never trailed in a 70-46 win on Friday, Jan. 4.

The victory improves the Bulldogs mark to 6-4 overall and 1-0 in the DAC, while the Wolves dropped to 7-5 overall, 0-1 in the DAC.

“It’s a great bounce back for us,” Sam Snodgrass said, as the senior guard, along with senior forward Sam Decker led the Bulldogs with 19 points each. “This is a great way to start off the conference, we are not there let, but we are looking for ways to improve.”

Snodgrass’s head coach agrees.

“It’s only one win, but we too a step in the right direction,” Bulldogs Head Coach Clint Swan said. “This was a good experience for us.”

Senior forward Elias Gerodemos also helped the Bulldogs cause with 18 points, who along with Snodgrass combined for nine three pointers.

Crown Point shot 64.1 percent from the field, while Michigan City struggled, only hitting 38.3 percent for the game.

Yet the Wolves got the efforts of senior forward Rayshon Howard, who had 14 points to lead his team, while freshman guard Omarian Hatch had 13 points.

Howard kept the Wolves in the game early as he had nine points in the opening quarter alone.

For the Bulldogs, they snap a three-game regular season losing streak against the Wolves, with the previous victory coming on Jan. 27, 2015 in a 75-69 home win.

However, Crown Point’s last overall victory against Michigan City came on Mar. 2, 2016 in a 60-52 contest in the opening round of the sectionals.

DOG NOTES: Before the game, a moment of silence was observed for Jack Pettit, who passed away on Jan. 1 of acute myelogenous leukemia. He was 69. The father of Crown Point High School Principal Chip Pettit, the elder Pettit graduated from Crown Point High School in 1967 before attending Valparaiso University where he played baseball. He recently coached Crown Point’s freshman boys’ basketball team. In addition, he also coached baseball, softball and golf.

The 70-points scored marked the highest point total the Bulldogs have accomplished in a game so far this season; their previous high was 68 points on Dec. 20 at Kankakee Valley. The Bulldogs won that game 68-59 in overtime.

USA-365.com/Indiana-Sports.com Broadcast Note: The next scheduled Crown Point Bulldogs’ broadcast on USA-365.com/Indiana-Sports.com will be on Friday, Jan. 11 when the Bulldogs make a relatively short road trip to meet their neighbors to the north, the Merrillville Pirates. The pregame show begins at 6:45 p.m., with tip-off at 7 p.m. (CST).
