CROWN POINT (01-25-2019) Heading into their Duneland Athletic Conference (DAC) game with the LaPorte Slicers, the Crown Point Bulldogs needed a win to stay in contention with the conference standings. The Slicers needed a win to stay perfect within the DAC.

In the end, the Bulldogs took control from the opening tip-off and did not look back as they defeated the Slicers 67-48 on Friday, Jan. 25 at Crown Point High School.

The Bulldogs got strong production from senior guard/forward Elias Gerodemos, who had 20 points to lead all scorers, while senior forward Sam Decker managed 16 points, followed by senior guard/forward Sam Snodgrass’s 10 points.

As a team Crown Point hit 17 of 20 free throws, good for 85 perfect and grabbed 32 total rebounds. The Bulldogs biggest advantage came in the second half, a 31-point lead at 50-19.

“It’s not just that we were shooting the ball well, but we were paying attention to detail,” Bulldogs’ Head Coach Clint Swan said. “This was a good night, both offensively and defensively.”

Because of the win, the Bulldogs avoided their second potential three-game losing streak of the season. They had lost their previous two contests coming-in, having suffered defeats by Griffith and Chesterton. Their only three-game losing streak came at the Noblesville Invitational on Dec. 27 and 28 against New Albany, Chesterton and Northridge.

For Chesterton, they received the efforts of junior guard Garrott Ott-Large, who had 12 points; while senior forward Drake Gunn chipped-in 10 points.

Both teams had 12 players each that saw time on the court.

“This was a great win for us,” Decker said. “We are going to use this to build momentum. We needed it.”

The win improves Crown Point’s record to 8-6 overall, while LaPorte falls to 9-6 overall, as both teams now hold a 3-1 DAC mark.

This game also marked the annual “Coaches vs. Cancer” challenge, as the Bulldogs wore white jerseys, but with pink numbers and lettering, in addition to a small ribbon at the top.

DOG NOTES: The 67 points scored by the Bulldogs marked their third highest point total in a game this season. Their highest was 70 points in a home win against Michigan City on Jan. 4. They had 68 points in an overtime win at Kankakee Valley on Dec. 20.

Crown Point is now 4-1 on their home floor for the 2018-2019 season, outscoring their opponents 59-48. Their lone lost came against Griffith in overtime on Jan. 12, 59-56.

USA-365.com/Indiana-Sports.com Broadcast Note: The next scheduled Crown Point Bulldogs’ broadcast on USA-365.com/Indiana-Sports.com will be on Friday, Feb. 8 when the Bulldogs host the Valparaiso Vikings. The pregame show begins at 6:45 p.m. with the tip-off at 7 p.m. (CST).
