MICHIGAN CITY (03-01-2017) From Wednesday’s opening tip-off, it became smooth sailing for the Crown Point Bulldogs. They entered Michigan City High School opening the IHSAA Class 4A, Sectional 2 tournament with beyond convincing fashion against the struggling Hobart Brickies.

It became true with a 66-36 victory.

The win improves Crown Point’s record to 21-3, while Hobart ends their year at 7-17.

The Bulldogs led 24-4 at the end of the first quarter and 35-15 at halftime. At one point, Crown Point held a 57-20 lead, their largest of the night.

Part of a night that had the Bulldogs shoot 56.8% from the field, nine-players reached the scores book as many bench players became visible late in the first half and towards game’s end.

Hobart shot only 27.3 percent while connecting on nine of 11 on free throws, good for 81.8 percent.

Senior Sasha Stefanovic led all scorers with 15 points. Right behind was fellow senior Dominic Tomich, who chipped-in 13.

Hobart had the efforts of senior Aleksander Novakovich, who led the Brickies with 13 points, their only double-digit scorer.

The Bulldogs proved dominate on the boards, outrebounding the Brickies 34 to 10 and CP has now won seven straight.

Including this win over the Brickies, the Bulldogs have dominated games against Northwest Crosswords Conference, 5-0 against Munster, Griffith, Andrean, Lowell and now Hobart.

The Bulldogs will meet-up with Chesterton in the semi-final round as the Trojans knocked-off the Portage Indians 73-70 in overtime in Wednesday's nightcap quarterfinal game.

Dog Notes: It’s been a long time coming since the last time the Brickies defeated the Bulldogs. The last time was Feb. 7, 1997, a 66-64 win for Hobart in a game played at Crown Point. The Bulldogs have now won 17 straight over the Brickies.

For the third straight year, the Bulldogs advance to a sectional semi-final game. The last time they were one and done was 2014.

Crown Point will play Chesterton on Friday in the Sectional semifinals, following the Trojans' 73-70 win over Portage in overtime. It will be the back-end of a doubleheader that will feature the Merrillville Pirates and the host Michigan City Wolves in the first game with tip-off at 6 p.m. (CST).

The Bulldogs have won four-straight over the Trojans, including sectional wins over the last two seasons. Crown Point defeated Chesterton last month on the road 59-40 on Jan. 20.

USA-365.com NOTES: Internet radio station USA-365.com will follow the Crown Point Bulldogs throughout the post-season, as long as CP remains alive in the IHSAA tournament. Join Frank Sprankle, Mark Smith and Dave Woodworth for live coverage beginning 15-minutes before the scheduled tip-off each game of the tourney, continuing with the Crown Point-Chesterton game Friday, Mar. 3 at 7:15 p.m. CST.
