CROWN POINT (02-16-2018) In a closely fought game that saw eight lead changes and 11 ties, it seemed a shame that either the Lake Central Indians or Crown Point Bulldogs would have to lose after a high intensity game like this. Playing not just their final home game of the season, but their final Duneland Athletic conference game for 2017-18, the Bulldogs held tight for a 60-55 win on Friday, Feb. 16.

The game also marked Senior Night as Crown Point honored three senior players; forward Vince Smith, as well as guards Jack Bennett and Jake McCallister.

Crown Point improved to 9-12 overall, 3-4 in the DAC; while Lake Central fell to 11-10, 1-5 in the DAC.

The win also ended the Bulldogs three-game losing streak with recent defeats against Andrean, Valparaiso and Penn.

Each team’s leading scorer had 22 points. For the Bulldogs guard/forward Sam Snodgrass achieved his feat on 9 of 12 shooting; while the senior forward Justin Graciano connected on 8 of 12 from the field for the Indians.

Crown Point also had the services of Sam Decker as the junior forward poured-in 14 points.

Lake Central had two seniors reach 13 points in guard Conner Tomasic and forward Keon Sellers.

To show how hard fought the game became, the Bulldogs held the largest lead, only six points, coming in the opening quarter.

From a shooting perspective, the two teams proved almost evenly matched; as Crown Point shot 52.5 percent, while Lake Central hit 53.8 percent from the field.

“It was good to see what they (Lake Central) are doing, but we will enjoy this one tonight,” Crown Point Head Coach Clint Swan said as the Bulldogs and Indians could mark a possible Class 4A, Sectional 1 match-up starting on February 27, to be played at Lake Central High School in St. John. “We are doing a better job taking care of the ball. We've got a number of first time varsity players and they have been playing different roles for us.”

DOG NOTES: The Bulldogs were without the services of junior guard Matt Hanlon against Lake Central. A scratch due to illness, freshman Ty Smith was activated from the junior varsity team and started at point guard, finishing with five points, three rebounds and just one turnover.

Crown Point closes out the home portion of the season with a 4-6 record. In those games, they were outscored 54-52.

USA-365.com NOTES: Internet radio station USA-365.com will broadcast the Crown Point Bulldogs regular season finale at the Lowell Red Devils on Friday, Feb. 23. Steaming coverage begins with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m. CST and the tip-off at 7 p.m. CST.
