LOWELL (02-23-2018) It seemed that victory for the Crown Point Bulldogs appeared certain in the second quarter of the regular season finale against the Lowell Red Devils last Friday. The Bulldogs jumped out at one point to a 26-5 advantage and led 29-14 at halftime.

But the Red Devils put a second half scare into the Bulldogs, coming back to briefly take a 43-42 lead with 1:33 remaining in the 4th quarter. But the Bulldogs held on with help from some key free throws in the final minute, paving the way for a Crown Point 49-43 road win.

Both teams ended their seasons at 11-12, with Crown Point closing out the regular season with a three-game winning streak and snapping Lowell’s four-game stretch of consecutive victories in the process.

Before tip-off, the Red Devils football team received their Class 4A Semi-State rings in a pregame ceremony.

Leading the Bulldogs, junior guard/forward Elias Gerodemos had 13 points, including a perfect nine of nine from the free throw line; while junior guard Cameron Pimentel came off the bench to add 10 points.

The Red Devils got the production of senior guard Grant Monix with 12 points, while junior guard Dustin Hudak connected three times from beyond the arc, part of his 11 points. Freshman guard Chris Mantis chipped-in 10 points for Lowell.

Shooting proved difficult for both teams as Crown Point connected for almost 39 percent on field goals, while Lowell neared 33 percent.

But it became a tale of two halves in terms of three-point shooting for the Bulldogs. They connected on six of 12 three-point shots in the first half, 50 percent; only to go one of seven in the second half, good for 14.2 percent.

DOG NOTES: With the Bulldogs having won three-straight, this marks the second time this season that feat has been accomplished. Crown Point defeated LaPorte South Bend Washington and Portage from Jan 26 to Feb. 1. To close out the regular season, they picked-up wins against Lake Central, Morton and now Lowell.

The Bulldogs will open-up the Class 4A, Sectional 1 Tournament at Lake Central High School this Wednesday, Feb. 28 against the host Indians. Crown Point defeated Lake Central on Feb. 16 at Crown Point High School, 66-55.
