The Bulldogs' Sam Snodgrass (24) shoots a '3' over the out-stretched hand of 6'1" senior Jack Eaton (20) at Chesterton High School on Friday, 01-18-2019. Snodgrass led CP in scoring with 19 points, including 3 of 6 shooting from behind the arc.
Chesterton's Nick Mullen (21) looks for an open teammate to pass the ball off to during the CP-Chesterton high school boys basketball game Friday, 01-18-2019.
As this jump shot hangs in the air, CP's Sam Krutz (30) attempts to box-out the Trojans' Jake Wadding (23) in anticipation of a rebound during the battle of 2-0 teams in the DAC. Chesterton eventually won 55-49 on 01-18-2019.
The Bulldogs race down the floor following a defensive steal by senior guard Chris Karakozas (21). Karakozis was also credited with three assists in 6:23 minutes of relief play for CP in their game at Chesterton on 01-18-2019.
Chesterton's Drew Vanderwoude (40) draws a foul as he drives for a late game-sealing basket against Crown Point. Just under 2-seconds later...
On the same play one second later the ball slowly rolls over the rim into the net for the Trojans' Vanderwoude final field goal of the night. The senior 6-4 forward finished with 8 points in Chesterton's 55-49 victory over CP.
During the pregame, it was the "5th Annual Alley-Oop for Autism" special event as Chesterton high school special education students pose for a photo with Crown Point and Chesterton varsity players, all wearing the commemorative powder blue T-shirts on 1-18-2019.

CHESTERTON (01-18-2019) Heading into their Duneland Athletic Conference match-up against the Chesterton Trojans, it seemed that momentum favored the Crown Point Bulldogs.

Despite losing their previous game at home to the Griffith Panthers six days earlier, the Bulldogs entered play having won both of their conference games, to Michigan City and Merrillville.

Chesterton entered the night, having lost back-to-back contests, to LaPorte and Andrean.

In the end, the Trojans used home court to their advantage with a 55-49 win at Chesterton High School on Friday, Jan. 18.

Chesterton improves to 11-4 overall, 2-1 in the DAC. Crown Point falls to 7-6, 2-1 in the DAC.

For these two schools, this marked the second time they met this season, as Chesterton prevailed 55-53 on Dec. 27, part of the Noblesville Tournament, a game considered non-conference.

Before the game, Chesterton High School held its fifth annual “Alley-Oop for Autism” event. This event consisted of special education students with autism playing a 10-minute basketball game. Also, the Trojans in pregame warm-ups wore powder blue shirts as part of the event.

Once Crown Point and Chesterton tipped off, the Trojans took control from the start, outscoring the Bulldogs 15-10 in the opening quarter.

However, Crown Point took their first lead on dramatic fashion as senior guard Sam Snodgrass hit a three as time expired for the first half.

The Bulldogs led 27-26 at halftime.

“We felt that was a good boost going into the second half,” Bulldogs’ Head Coach Clint Swan said on Snodgrass’s go-ahead three pointer.

However, the Trojans outscored the Bulldogs 18-11 in the third quarter and prevailed from there.

“You’re not going to get anything done being outscored 18-11 in the third quarter,” Swan said. “We are going to have to work on how we can get ourselves better, we can’t be thinking about other opponents.”

Chesterton got a strong effort from junior forward Jake Wadding, who had 20 points, as Chesterton shot 56 percent from the field.

Crown Point got the production of Sondgrass’ 19 points, followed-up with senior forward Elias Gerodemos, who chipped-in with 14 points.

For Chesterton, this marked a victory that they felt was much needed.

“I’m proud of our guys,” Trojans’ Head Coach Marc Urban said. “We challenged them after the Andrean loss.” This is a big win for us.”

DOG NOTES: The loss to Chesterton drops the Bulldogs to 4-5 in games away from Crown Point High School, road games and neutral site contests. They hold a 3-1 mark at home.

Of the next three games for Crown Point, two will match-up against DAC schools. The Bulldogs will face conference foes LaPorte at home on Jan. 25 and at Portage on Jan. 31. The Jan. 26 game at South Bend Washington marks the Bulldogs lone non-conference game in this stretch.

USA-365.com/Indiana-Sports.com Broadcast Note: The next scheduled Crown Point Bulldogs’ broadcast on USA-365.com/Indiana-Sports.com will be on Friday, Jan. 25 when the Bulldogs host the LaPorte Slicers in a Duneland Athletic Conference showdown. The pregame show begins at 6:45 p.m., with tip-off at 7 p.m. (CST).
