Friday, January 11, 2018 - Duneland Athletic Conference game at MERRILLVILLE, Ind.

The overhead lights go dark and the spotlight and cell phones light up in Englehart Gymnasium at Merrillville High School as the starting lineup for the Pirates is announced to the crown of about 1,800 Friday, Jan. 11, 2019.
Bulldogs senior guard Matt Hanlon (10) puts up and sinks a "3" early in the first quarter against Merrillville. He would add another 3 in the third en route to 9 points on the night.
An early shot by the Bulldogs has four Pirates looking for a rebound. In fact, Merrillville out-rebounded CP 18-10 in the first half, and 30-23 for the game.
Pirates senior forward Darryon Bandy (1) recovers a loose ball under the Bulldogs basket in first half action with the Bulldogs Friday night. After a 13-13 first quarter tie, the Pirates led 24-23 at the half and 35-34 after three quarters.
The Crown Point Cheerleaders perform during a timeout on the court, helping to cheer on the Bulldogs to their second half comeback and eventual 47-45 win at Merrillville HS.
Not to be outdone by the visiting cheerleaders, the Merrillville Cheerleaders built an impressive human pyramid on the gym floor during a time-out.
A late game time out by the Bulldogs has the entire team surrounding the starting five and coach Clint Swann (hidden from view).

MERRILLVILLE (01-11-2019) It’s not the game that Crown Point Bulldogs’ senior guard Sam Snodgrass pictured offensively with only two points against the Merrillville Pirates in Duneland Athletic Conference (DAC) play. But he arguably made the play of the game on defense.

His block from behind Pirates’ senior guard Will Fulton secured the Bulldogs' 47-45 victory at Merrillville High School on Friday, Jan 11.

Crown Point improves to 7-4, 2-0 in the DAC while Merrillville falls to 6-5, 0-2 in the DAC.

In the game’s final seconds, Merrillville brought the ball inbounds the length of the floor. In the front-court, the ball ended-up in the hands of Fulton before Snodgrass struck it out from behind to secure victory.

“It certainly makes up for my bad offense,” Snodgrass said, “It was frustrating that I did not help out on offense, but I had to do other things to help us win.”

For Snodgrass, who also had 11 rebounds, he described the key to any block shot must involve timing it right.

“Sam Snodgrass is one of the best shot blockers I have ever seen,” Bulldogs’ Head Coach Clint Swan. “We have a lot of tough guys who want to win and be successful. This win was gratifying.”

Senior forwards Elias Gerodemos and Sam Decker led Crown Point in points scored.

Gerodemos had 19 points, while Decker contributed with 16 points as both went an identical seven of nine from the field.

Merrillville received the efforts of senior guard Keon Thompson, who led his team with 18 points.

Still, both teams struggled from three-point range. The Bulldogs only connected on three of 13 from long range with senior guard Matt Hanlon coming through on two shots from beyond the arc, part of a nine-point night. The Pirates only managed three of 10 on their three-point attempts with sophomore forward/guard Dorian Harris hitting two.

DOG NOTES: Having defeated Merrillville, Crown Point has now started off their conference schedule with two straight wins, including a 70-46 home in on Jan. 4. The 2010-11 season marked the previous time the Bulldogs started 2-0 in the conference, with a home win against LaPorte on Dec. 3, 2010 and a road victory over Lake Central seven days later.

Including this win against Merrillville, the last four of five games for the Bulldogs have been decided by only two points. They lost each game of the Noblesville Tournament by two points; Dec. 27 to New Albany 61-59, Chesterton 55-53 and on Dec. 28 to Northridge 54-52.

USA-365.com/Indiana-Sports.com Broadcast Note: The next scheduled Crown Point Bulldogs’ broadcast on USA-365.com/Indiana-Sports.com will be on Friday, Jan. 18 when the Bulldogs visit the Chesterton Trojans. The pregame show begins at 6:45 p.m., with tip-off at 7 p.m. (CST).
