CROWN POINT (02-08-2019) Opportunity presented itself for the Crown Point Bulldogs last Friday night, Feb. 8 at Crown Point High School.

They welcomed in the Valparaiso Vikings the top team in the Duneland Athletic Conference (DAC).

With Crown Point holding at third place, they played competitively until the end but could not pull it out.

In the final seconds of a 46-46 all tie, Vikings’ senior wing Nate Aerts took advantage of putting his own rebound of the basketball back into the hoop from the side of the net with time expiring.

The result, Valparaiso picked-up a 48-46 win to clinch a share of the DAC.

The Vikings improve to 15-5 overall, 6-0 in the DAC, while Crown Point dropped to 10-7 overall, 3-2 in the DAC.

The loss also ends the Bulldogs three-game winning streak, that started on Jan. 25 against LaPorte and included victories against South Bend Washington and Andrean.

For Valparaiso, senior guard Brandon Newman had the big production with 28 points, missing a double-double by a rebound.

Aerts’s game winner capped-off a 14-point night to help the Vikings.

The Bulldogs got a strong showing from senior guard/forward Elias Gerodemos, who had 19 points, while senior forward Sam Decker chipped-in 10 points.

In all, both teams had their struggles in total shooting, as Valparaiso only shot 39.6 percent from the field, while Crown Point hit 32.5 percent of their shots.

But the Vikings took control of the boards as they had 30 team rebounds to 22 for the Bulldogs.

DOG NOTES: All seven of Crown Point’s losses this season have come by 10 points or less. In their losses this season, they have been outscored by an average score of 40-37.

Of the five remaining games this season for the Bulldogs, only two are at home. They include Morton on Feb. 19 and Lowell on Feb. 22 to close the regular season.

USA-365.com/Indiana-Sports.com Broadcast Note: The next scheduled Crown Point Bulldogs’ broadcast on USA-365.com/Indiana-Sports.com will be on Friday, Feb. 22 when the Bulldogs conclude the regular season at home against the Lowell Red Devils. The pregame show begins at 6:45 p.m. (CST), with tip-off at 7 p.m. (CST).
