CROWN POINT (01-19-2018) The first half between the Chesterton Trojans and the Crown Point Bulldogs proved exciting. The Trojans held a four-point lead in a low scoring opening 16 minutes.

Then came the third quarter, a span which decided the night for the Trojans as they outscored the Bulldogs 24-7. It proved vital as Chesterton went on to win 56-39 on January 19 at Crown Point High School.

Chesterton improves to 13-2, 2-1 in the Duneland Athletic Conference, while Crown Point falls to 5-8, 0-2 in the DAC.

Chesterton hit 53.8 percent of the shots, led by senior forward Austin Peterson’s 17 points, three for six from beyond the arc. Senior guard Ky Palombizio contributed with 12 points.

Despite the defeat, Crown Point had a strong showing from junior guard/forward Elias Gerodemos, who had 15 points.

The Trojans shot an impressive 61.9 percent in the second half.

“They (Chesterton) took us out of our rhythm. It was hard to generate any offense with their scoring. Hats off to Chesterton,” Crown Point Head Coach Clint Swan said. “We are in a good conference, we have to get ourselves ready to play.”

Three-point shooting became a vocal point, as the Trojans connected on 46.7 percent, seven of 15 shots from long distance; while Crown Point only managed four of 15, good for 26.7 percent.

DOG NOTES: The loss for the Bulldogs marks the second this season against the Trojans. While not in DAC play, Crown Point lost 47-40 on Dec. 28 to Chesterton at the Noblesville Tournament.

A win by Crown Point would have given them back-to-back wins for the second time this season. They have only won back-to-back games at one point this season; at Warsaw, 55-50 on December 16, and at home against Kankakee Valley, 65-41 on December 19.

USA-365.com NOTES: Internet radio station USA-365.com has added two more regular season games to its Crown Point boys basketball broadcast schedule, including this Saturday, Jan. 27 when South Bend Washington plays the Bulldogs in a 7 p.m. tip-off. The pregame show is at 6:45 p.m. USA-365.com also will broadcast the Portage Indians at the Crown Point Bulldogs game Thursday, Feb. 1. Streaming coverage begins with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m. and the tip-off at 7 p.m. CST.
