CROWN POINT (04-25-2018) From the first pitch, senior Ryan Bolda appeared dominant for the Crown Point Bulldogs. He retired the first 10 LaPorte Slicers he faced, a span that included six strikeouts.

The offense got into gear in the bottom of the third, courtesy of senior Scott Ferkull’s two-run single, helping guide the Bulldogs to a 5-2 victory.

The win comes 24 hours after the Slicers defeated the Bulldogs 4-2 in the first of a home-and-home stand at LaPorte High School.

Bolda’s perfect streak of shutting down LaPorte hitters ended with one out in the top of the fourth when senior Chandler Banic singled to center, the first of back-to-back hits off the Bulldogs' starter. The threat ended when senior Nolan Lorenz hit into a 4-6-3 double play.

Crown Point added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth when senior Ben Fridrich doubled to right, scoring junior Alex Rich from second. Ferkull would later score on a wild pitch by LaPorte's starting southpaw Noah Mathias.

The Slicers' lone two runs came in the top of the sixth when senior Gabe Silfa hit into an error caused by Bulldogs senior shortstop Jake DeFries. Another error on a bad pick-off throw by Bolda would score senior Nolan Lorenz from second.

Junior catcher Mason Boyd came-in as the last run for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the sixth, on a wild pitch from third by Slicers senior reliever Mark Haines. The run was charged to Mathias, who gave-up a double to Boyd to lead off the inning before his outing ended.

Bolda then worked his way through the bottom of the Slicers line-up in order in the top of the seventh to secure the complete-game win.

Our next Internet radio baseball broadcast on USA-365.com will be Wednesday, May 2 when the Bulldogs visit the Valparaiso Vikings. The pregame show is at 4:15 p.m. CDT and first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CDT.
