MERRILLVILLE(05-06-2017) For Crown Point Bulldogs starter Grayson Lynk, dominance became reality. The senior right-hander displayed consistency and strong command through more than five innings pitched in his team’s 5-2 win over the Andrean 59ers in the first game of a road doubleheader.

Lynk only gave-up two hits. However, the first hit did not come until Andrean senior Adam Bednarek connected on an infield single in the fifth.

For the Bulldogs starter, there was some disappointment that he lost the no-hitter, but pleased with the end result.

“I was not thinking about it, but I really wanted it, although we did win, I pitched very well,” Lynk said after the first game as he credits his curve ball as his most reliable pitch against the 59ers. “My first start against Portage, I did not have control of my curve, but I did today.”

The Bulldogs tallied runs in the first and third innings, but Andrean responded with two runs in the sixth to cut the Crown Point lead to one.

But thanks to three errors, including one on junior Jake DeFries' single, which scored two in the seventh, the Bulldogs got the insurance they needed.

Senior Brandon Haczynski came in to relief in the sixth and retired four straight for the save. He struck out the first three batters he faced.

MERRILLVILLE(05-06-2017) Plenty of tension existed in the second game of the doubleheader between the Crown Point Bulldog and Andrean 59ers.

After five scoreless innings, the two squads traded runs in their respective halves of the sixth. But in the end, a hit batsman with the base loaded in the bottom of the seventh gave Andrean a 3-2 win, as both teams split the twin bill.

The scoring started when Crown Point junior Scott Ferkull singled on a hit to left field, driving-in senior Rocci Beebe from third in the top of the sixth.

In the bottom half of the sixth, Andrean responded with a double by senior pinch-hitter Evan Hylek, scoring junior Clay Thompson from second.

After Beebe doubled in the top of the seventh to score junior Jake DeFries from second, Andrean went to work.

In the 59ers half of the seventh with Bulldogs senior righty Luke Adams on the mound, Andrean senior Kevin McCune reached base on an error. He would take second on a stolen base.

Sophomore Michael Doolin would then step-up and double to right, scoring McCune. Doolin would then steal third.

At that point, Adams gave way to another Bulldogs right-hander, sophomore Marek Bauner. The first hitter he faced, Andrean junior Nick Fushi drew a walk.

Thompson was then intentionally walked and junior Joe Rycerz stood in the box for Andrean with the bases loaded. The result became Rycerz getting hit by the pitch, bringing Doolin in for the game winning run, charged to Adams who took the lost. For Andrean, senior Billy Johnson got the win, pitching a complete game.

Crown Point's record goes to 11-8 on the season, 7-3 in the Duneland Athletic Conference. Andrean's record is now 15-4 overall and 7-1 in the Northwest Crossroads Conference.
